Since Nikki Darling reduced shipping costs to just $5 per order all the way back in 2018, Australia Post has increased their shipping expenses several times over. I have worn the additional costs, but we've hit that unfortunate stage where I am going to need to increase the postage ever-so-slightly.

So, what does this mean? It means that from today (1 July 2021), there are two significant changes to the way Nikki Darling does postage:

$6 Flat-Rate Shipping Australia-Wide

The first is that standard orders are now $6 flat rate postage Australia-wide. Because I believe in being transparent about these sorts of things, I want you to know that I am still absorbing the packaging costs and some of the shipping costs from my profit margin, but this small change will help Nikki Darling to be able to grow and be sustainable. To give you an idea of what I pay to send out your orders, you can have a look at the MyPost Business postage rates from the most recent increase in March this year in this PDF document from Australia Post.

Signature on Delivery

The second change relates to Signature on Delivery. Previously, Signature on Delivery was an additional cost that I absorbed and applied to orders at my discretion, in the way that seemed most logical for the destination. From today, Signature on Delivery is now an opt-in service, and I ask that you cover the cost of it. This means that all orders will be sent without Signature on Delivery unless you want it.

Why would you choose Signature on Delivery? If you know you will not be at your shipping address to receive your parcel, and your property is not safe to leave parcels unattended at, I highly recommend you choose this option!

Alternative options would be to have your orders delivered to your workplace, to a trusted friend/partner/neighbour, or to a Parcel Locker, Parcel Collect or PO Box instead. The Nikki Darling delivery is very discreet (the business name and logo does not appear on the external packaging).

Please note - if you elect to have your parcels delivered without Signature on Delivery, once the parcel is delivered, it is your responsibility and Nikki Darling has limited liability for these orders - choosing this option is done so at your own risk, so please consider your individual circumstances and decide what is most suitable for you!

What's Not Changing

That's it for the new changes, so here is a list of what is staying the same!

  • Free Parcel Post delivery is still available on orders over $60.
  • Express Post orders without Signature on Delivery is still $12.
  • All domestic orders ship with Australia Post and include tracking.
  • Delivery timeframes remain the same.
  • All orders are lovingly picked and packed in-house.
  • All orders are sent discreetly with no identifying business name or logo on the external packaging.

I really appreciate the support of all of my customers throughout the country who choose to shop with a truly small, truly queer and truly local business that puts people before profit. I don't make any money from shipping costs, and I don't want to. The less I have to feed into packaging and postage costs, the more I am able to provide material and financial support to a range of community organisations and events, and this is a big part of what Nikki Darling is all about!

I held off on this increase as long as possible, but like death and taxes, price rises are kinda inevitable, and I really appreciate your understanding and continued support!
